Adapting with Vitiligo is easy!

Vitiligo is one of the long-term problems in which the skin loses its colour and some white patches start to appear in different places around the body and in a very random pattern. It has no relation to age, ethnicity or gender, but some studies show that it’s more likely to be common among the youth of 20 years old.

The patches appear when melanocytes within the skin die off. Melanocytes are the cells responsible for producing the skin pigment, melanin, which gives skin its colour and protects it from the sun's UV rays.

Needs to be mentioned that Vitiligo is not a contagious disease and there is no need to avoid dealing with the patient or even anything embarrassing about it to be hidden, it also doesn’t have any direct or indirect relation to the cancer cells as people think.

Now let’s know more about the cause that may be the main reasons for these patches to SUDDENLY appear on the skin:

•Disorder in which your immune system attacks and destroys the melanocytes in the skin.

•Family history (heredity).

•A trigger event, such as sunburn, stress or exposure to industrial chemicals.

You also need you to know that there are different types of Vitiligo in which the discoloured patches spread. The most common type of them, called Generalized Vitiligo, which covers mostly all of the body. The second type is called Segmental Vitiligo, and this type tends a little bit to occur in younger age and appear for one or two years and stop. The last of them is the Focal Vitiligo, appears in one or few areas around the body.

Unfortunately, there's no known way to prevent or cure the condition. But you can improve the appearance of affected skin with cosmetics and corticosteroid creams. Your doctor can also try re-pigmenting the white skin using UV light therapy or lightening the skin in unaffected areas, or a skin graft.

Now, if you are a Vitiligo patient, you would probably find those following advice helped to somehow decrease the spread of the discoloured patches and get a healthy body that responds to the long-term treatment.

1. Avoid any psychological or emotional stress and try some exercise that helps to relax and reduce stress.

2. Avoid wearing tight clothing or polyester that restricts blood circulation in the body, which can sometimes increase the spread of stains.

3. Do not overeat some foods that may cause some problems such as citrus, pickles, red meat and wheat products.

4. It is advisable to replace the previous foods with other useful such as bananas, apples, figs, leafy vegetables such as lettuce and root vegetables such as beets, carrots and radishes.

5. It is always recommended in most skin diseases to consume adequate amounts of freshwater that keeps the skin moist and reduces the risk of spreading the disease.

6. Protect the skin from harmful sunlight or any chemicals and be careful to wear a radiation shield if the patient is forced to deal with it.

7. Finally, do not use any creams or recipes from ordinary people and always consult a doctor, because each case is different from the other.
